By 1850, Billingsgate Island had 30 homes, a lighthouse, and even a baseball team! Storms and erosion began to eat away at the island which led to most of its residents departing for the mainland. Many homes were cut into pieces and floated across the bay where they were reassembled after arriving on shore. Windswept cottage is one of the last remaining homes floated over from Billingsgate Island in 1905.

This 4-bedroom/1-bath cottage has three full beds and three twin beds. The breeze directly off the bay keeps the cottage very cool but ac window units are available in the bedrooms for your sleeping comfort. The kitchen has a gas stove, microwave, fridge, and all the modern conveniences for cooking meals, including a grill out on the deck with views of the bay. A large living space with a steaming Roku tv and a dining table for 6 rounds out this comfortable home. There is no washer and dryer but a perfectly working clothesline for hanging those suits out to dry after spending all day on the beach in them.
